NRoSo Workshops

The title of the NRoSO road show for sprayer operators this autumn and winter 2013/14 is ‘ACT’.  The course will be worth 10 CPD points for NRoSO members (plus 6 CPD points for BASIS members).

This latest course will cover the following main topics:

  • Activity
    • How Fungicide sprays work
    • Factors that affect fungicidal activity
    • Understanding “mode of action”
    • Understand the approval constraints of a product label
    • Water Quality
  • Coverage
    • Application factors that affect efficacy and work rates whilst maintaining safety
    • Managing spray drift by nozzle selection with either air induction or conventional nozzles
    • The difference between “coverage” and “deposit” and how to optimise both to good effect
    • Timeliness, boom height and water volumes are included in this module
  • Topical
    • Grandfather rights current exemption expires on 25th November 2015 and a new Certificate of Competence will be introduced.  New information on this will be shared as it come to light.
    • Bees and insecticides best practice:  The population of bumble and honey bees is in international decline and use of insecticides has been under investigation.  Neonicotinoids are under the spotlight and have now recently been withdrawn.  The implications of this for the environment and crops such as maize and oilseed rape are discussed as well as how this change in legislation will affect the spray operators work pattern.
